The aged care industry in Australia is growing fast. This means they need a lot of people who’re kind and good at their job to work in this field. Australia’s population is getting older. So they need people to help them. This is a time to start a career in aged care.

Step 1: Complete a Recognised Training Program

To get started in care you need to do a training program. This program teaches you the basics like taking care of people, talking to them, keeping them safe from germs and helping them with activities. You do not need to know anything about care before you start this program.

Step 2: Gain Practical Work Experience

aged care training programs include work experience. You will work in a care setting for 120 hours. This could be in a nursing home in someone’s home or in a community center. This experience helps you learn and become confident in your abilities. You will be working with people who need your help. (ANTS, n.d.)

Step 3: Complete Essential Compliance Checks

Before you can work with people you need to do some safety checks. You need to get a police check to work with people with disabilities and a first aid certificate. These checks keep the people safe. (Safeguard Commissions, n.d.)

Step 4: Explore Different Work Settings

You can work in different places as an aged care worker. You could work in a nursing home in someone’s home or in a community center. As you get experience you can move up to better jobs like team leader or care coordinator. (Career Education, n.d.)

Aged care is a career. It is stable and fulfilling. There are jobs available and you can move up to better positions easily. Aged care is an opportunity, for anyone who wants a good job.
